Is your pet repeatedly scratching themselves or visually irritated? You might want to have a closer look inside your pet’s fur because adult fleas might be using “Rover” or “Muffy” as a host. Fleas need blood to survive and at the adult stage they can be seen moving in your pet’s fur or jumping on and off them to host.

.

If you see adult fleas, chances are they’ve started the life-cycle in your home, spreading flea larvae in discreet locations such as cracks/grooves in the floor, under furniture or in carpets/rugs. These wingless insects are about 2.5mm long, ranging from brown to reddish brown. Although they don’t fly, their six long legs give them ability to jump from host to host. Fleas are hairy so they can settle into a host, yet are thin and flat for ease of movement in fur. Fleas are visible with the naked eye in infested pet’s fur.

Fleas are parasites the need blood from a host to survive. If fleas have a preference  to feed, it’s on hairy animals such as dogs, cats, rabbits, squirrels, rates, mice and other domesticated or wild animals. Fleas are typically brought into a home via pets; however eggs are not attached to the host. Eggs hatch within two days on the ground, in carpets, bedding or upholstery.

Adult fleas are easier to see. At this stage, fleas will jump around trying to land on pets and people looking for a host. Flea eggs and larvae are found in discreet areas such as pet bedding, cracks and grooves in floors or carpets and under or inside furniture. Flea larvae spin cocoons 5-20 days after hatching from their eggs at which point they need a blood meal within 24-48 hours. Day & Nite Pest control has extensive flea control experience in the Bay Area.

The night was really terrible; it would be a miracle if the craft did not founder. Twice it could have been all over with her if the crew had not been constantly on the watch. Aouda was exhausted, but did not utter a complaint. More than once Mr. Fogg rushed to protect her from the violence of the waves.
